Habitudes 3 Credit Course
Leadership Development Plan
Announcing a new Leadership Survey Course Based on Habitudes
Many of our subscribers have requested we turn the Habitudes book series into a three-credit college course. We have created such a course, and are now piloting that course with four schools across the nation. For those who desire to add new courses to your Fall 2009 catalog, the description and timetables are below. |
Course Description:
Semester Course / Three credits
This is an innovative survey course providing students with a basic understanding of what it means to think and act like a life-giving leader. It covers eighteen fundamental and timeless leadership principles that every effective leader should understand. The principles are based upon the idea that leadership is about influence, and people influence long before they receive a leadership title. The course is taught in a creative manner involving powerful images, stimulating conversation and transforming experiences for the students. A class project forms the climax of this course and each student is expected to teach one of the Habitudes (images) during the semester.
Details for the Teacher
Up until now, the Habitudes series has been primarily used with Student Government, Resident Advisors, Athletic Teams and other students affairs groups on a campus. Based on a high volume of requests, we have taken the memorable images, and turned them into an academic course. What makes it unique is that it is designed to reach an EPIC generation: one that is Experiential, Participatory, Image-rich and Connected. For schools who have already used the Habitudes material in a class, they reported that it became a favorite class on their school campus.
The course kit includes a set of lesson plans, power point slides and a suggested syllabus for a three-credit college course, based on the Habitude images. The curriculum was written with the academic rigor suitable for an undergraduate course complete with outcomes, case studies, textbooks and assignments. It can be used in classes that meet Mon, Wed, Fri or Tue/Thu.
Each Lesson Plan Includes:
1. Class Objectives and Outcomes
2. Creative Idea to Teach each Principle
3. Suggested Movie Clips
4. Habitude Image
5. Trial By Fire Exercise
6. A Case Study
7. Discussion Questions
8. Personal Assessment
9. Assignment
